Linda Hirst is Head of Vocal Studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Every year Linda’s students take part in Blackheath Halls Opera, either as leaders of the chorus or performing smaller roles.
Linda writes about Blackheath Halls Opera and the students’ involvement
“Trinity Laban vocal students love Blackheath Halls Opera. It happens just after our term ends and there are always some very good singers who are not in our college production, who can devote themselves to being chorus leaders, or take small roles in the Blackheath opera. They learn so much from working with both professionals and amateurs on the same stage – this is one of the many wonderful things about the community opera.
They make friends with the cast, take tips from the pros and tell everyone bits about themselves and their ambitions, and many seeds are sown. I’m so happy that we join up in this way, and that we have had Matthew Rose as our Visiting Artist in the Vocal Department at Trinity Laban has strengthened and developed our partnership not just for the community opera, but by making future plans and having exciting ideas.”
