Blackheath Halls Opera

Miriam Carrera, one of the first violinists in the orchestra, about her involvement in Blackheath Halls Opera

Miriam and her partner Nahum Canoura play violin in Blackheath Halls Orchestra and are pictured here with Musical Director Nicholas Jenkins after last year’s Blackheath Halls Opera, Verdi’s Macbeth.

This is Miriam’s experience of Blackheath Halls Opera:

‘This is the third year I play violin with the Blackheath Halls Orchestra for their opera season.I have played for other orchestras during my time in London but playing at Blackheath always feels like going back home.

Having the chance of playing surrounded by so many talented people makes this a remarkable experience, especially for people like me who never made it to become a professional musician.

Everyone puts a lot of effort on the rehearsals and performances and I am sure this year’s shows will be a complete success.

I would like to thank Nick Jenkins for being such a great conductor, even though he split me and my boyfriend Nahum, a.k.a ‘The dream team”, into first and second violins respectively. On a serious note, he is truly inspiring and motivating and probably the best conductor I have ever had the pleasure to work with.

Thanks as well to Rose, the singers, the choir, the orchestra and everyone else that makes this possible.

You have made me love violin and classical music more than ever!’
